Nanwan Monkey Island Ecotourism Area

Nanwan Monkey Island is the only tropical island reserve of Guangxi macaques in China and the world. Nanwan is actually a peninsula accessed by a 2138 metre long cable car with stunning views of the sea, fisheries and rainforest. The reserve is located about 60 kilometres from the city of Sanya. It is home to about two thousand Guanxi macaques. All monkeys are kept in natural conditions, moving freely along with tourists. Primates are accustomed to people and are generally friendly, but they are very agile and cunning - so we recommend not to tease them or attract their attention with brightly coloured things, they may snatch them. The wild habitat, abundance of fruits of all kinds, a large number of natural grottos - all these conditions are more suitable than any other for breeding macaques.
